A romantics guide to Paris

Going to Paris with that someone special? Want to understand why Paris is the City of Love? There are so many romantic things to do in Paris. With this couples guide to Paris, I’ll give you the top ideas on romantic thing to see and do for two!

Day One: Classic Paris experiences

Want to do something romantic in Paris that’s also budget friendly? Do a picnic in the park. You can make it as gourmet or simple as you wish! For a low key option, grab some cheap French wine and snacks from the supermarket and head to Butte Chaumont, lazing away reading books side by side on the big rolling hills. Or for something a little classier, picnic under the Eiffel Tower or on the famous green chairs at the Luxembourg Gardens. Buy your picnic goodies from nearby bakeries, butchers and patisseries so the quality of the food matches the surroundings.

Cap off your Romantic Paris Itinerary with a night time Seine River Cruise with champagne!  Can’t afford a cruise? No stress! Stroll along the banks of Seine for Sunset, then bask in lamplight as the city sparkles all around you from one of the several beautiful bridges in central Paris. If you’re lucky, there might be a busker or two to set the mood even more!

Day Two: Indulgent food and drink in Paris

We maybe can’t afford to live like a rich Parisian all the time, but let’s save up and dream for a day with this list of must try places to eat in Paris ! Start your boujee day in Paris by treating yourselves with a high-end macaron from Pierre Hermé or Ladurée, or perhaps a try the best hot chocolate in Paris from either Angelina’s or Carette who often battle it out for the title. Or if you want to experience the best chocolate in Paris, perhaps a delicate chocolate from Alan Ducasse, Jean-Paul Hévin or Hugo & Victor. Later, have a late lunch at a classy French café or bistro in a ritzy area - maybe facing the Place De Vosges or somewhere nearby the Tuileries.

OR if you’re feeling greedy - go to the “Galeries Lafayette Le Gourmet” food store where they have EVERY gourmet goodie all in one place, then walk across to the main Galeries Lafayette for some major retail therapy. Be sure to stop by the rooftop for views of the nearby Opera.

Top of your day with a high-end cocktail or champagne. Consider The Ritz Paris to go all out, or the rooftop bar of the Pullman which is one of the most popular hotels near the Eiffel Tower.

Day Three: Alternative things to do in Paris

Want to experience a different side to Paris? Visit Pere LaChaise Cemetery. Ok, this one may sound a little bizarre, but it’s actually super beautiful with many famous lovers and writers buried there. Plus, I find it prompts some intimate, deep conversations too - about life and love and all that good stuff!

Catch a risqué burlesque show afterwards - Paris has a heap on offer! Moulin Rouge could be a good one for first timers with what I’ve heard is a very solid dinner and drinks offering, or check out Crazy Horse for something a little spicier!

Day Four: Day trips from Paris

A day trip from Paris together is such a lovely wholesome idea, with plenty of time to spend together the two of you. Visit Monet’s Garden in Giverny for picture perfect romance or Versailles and its beautiful grounds (you can even hire bikes or a golf cart - what cute, fun activity for a couple!).

Day Five: Explore Montmartre

If one area of Paris is the most well known as romantic, it would be Montmartre with its village like feel. Take the day easy and explore its hilly, cobblestone streets and cute little cafes and patisseries for a picture perfect Romantic Paris day. Montmartre is also home to the famous “love wall” where the word love is graffitied in multiple languages as well as a museum dedicated to romance - Museum of Romantic Life Paris!  The Cemetery of Montmartre is also nearby and is a more quaint and peaceful alternative to Pere LaChaise Cemetery which, although far from overrun, is more well known.

Then later - why not dance the night away. Check out some options here.
